2nds away at Fraserburgh

The opening game of the season for the 2nds was the long trip up the road to Fraserburgh. Last seasons 3 games against the Broch garnered 2 defeats and one draw. Stand-in Captain; Mal won the toss and decided to bowl first using the services of elder hands Neil Wright and Mark Honey to open the game. A slow start to the innings saw Broch slump to 60 for 4 thanks to 2 wickets from debutant Matt Heyman, with fine support from Pie and another debutant; Russell Hartley. However, after limiting the scoring for a few over, the QC bowling was taken to task by some late middle order batting that leaked 72 runs from the last 12 overs. The pick of the bowling being Matt Heyman's 3 for 36. Opening the batting for QC were Andy Deady and Matt Heyman who put 33 on the board before Matt was the first of the 8 wickets to fall by being straight bowled. Despite getting some good starts, none of the QC batsmen managed to make much of an impression, the exceptions being Andy Deady's 32 and Richard Holland's 22. An all too characteristic QC middle-order slump led the lower order batsmen to bat the game out, with Lummy and Tim McNiff holding on until the end of the overs and see QC claim 18 points and a better season opener than the 2nds have seen for a few years.
