2nds away to Ellon 2nds

A fine comeback from the 2nds this week after last week's poor showing at home to Kintore. Skipper Chris Arkless played his first game of the season and chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Openers Neil Wright and Mark Honey bowled a tight spell, each taking a wicket apiece. Debutant Mark Josephs, cousin of last week's Kintore Bowler Damien Vegas claimed two wickets with his accurate pace. Spin bowlers Allan Bell and Mal Speagell kept the scores to a minimum as Ellon struggled to 126 for 7 off 40 overs. Ellon's Bhatti took to the QC bowling for the last 5 overs as Ellon accumulated 162 runs for the loss of 8 wickets, ending after 46 overs. Queen's Cross took to the field after tea with an opening pairing of Chris Arkless and Andy Deady, each scoring 17. Steady scoring from the top 4 batsmen, including a well-crafted 35 from Neil Wright. A total of 46 extras helped QC keep up with the pace, despite losing wickets at key times. Neil Wright was ably supported by returning QC favourite Ed Michaluk and Richard Holland. Neil fell 9 runs short of the target and going in to the last over 5 runs were required with 3 wickets in hand. The first ball of the final over, Richard Holland smacked Ellon's Duncan for 6 over long-on and QC finally had the result they had been hoping for.
